Bubble Planet
This was the real reason we planned the Random London Adventure. Our final event of the day was Bubble Planet, an experience dedicated to bubbles to excite even the grumpiest of inner children.
The second Jay and I saw this on the Fever app we knew we had to go. It looked fun, it looked quirky, and more than anything it was explicitly childish and as grown children it appealed to us immensely.
With full bellies from our lunch at a Greene King by Dopamine Land and being slightly tired from the hour long journey back across London, we entered excitedly.
This was by far the highlight of our day and we both agreed it was our favourite experience thus far.
Bubble Planet started out on a trail where you can draw on the walls. This then leads to a few immersive rooms. This started with a vaguely interactive sea type room. Everything was very blue, ocean themed, and bubbles appeared on the floor as you walked around. Jamie had a bit of fun with this, but between me and you I was really hoping this wouldn't set the scene for this experience as it was a bit naff.
However, this was clearly just to ease you into the fun as next up was the balloon pit. This was a room FULL of massive pink balloons. You got to pelt them at each other, play catch, swat them away, and even pop them. We've never had so much fun smacking them at each other. Poor Jay took quite a few to the face thanks to me and also ended up buried beneath them on occasion as he fell, but when we teamed up to bat away the onslaught from other people, that was where we got competitive. We came out of there panting and stinking of latex (get your minds out of the gutter people) but it was an awful lot of fun.
Following this was the Dome room. This was a giant dome you laid within which was meant to have a calming effect. Tardis like portals lined the inside and played bubble related sequences to help you relax and nap as you laid on a bean bag. After 5 minutes of this and knowing how a bubble in a pepsi max feels, we swiftly moved on.
Following this was more hype with the giant ball pit. Now this was the correct reaction to a swimming pool filled with balls, and no one sat in silence. We both got in, swam amongst the 'bubbles' and got crushed by a giant inflatable Pixar ball. Some kids thought it would be hilarious to crush as many people as possible with this, and we both drowned in small plastic balls as we got squished. Jamie got subjected to this more so than myself due to his reactions to it, and now will have nightmares of the Pixar ball for life.
Once we dragged ourselves from the depths of the deep, white bubble pit, Jamie and I walked straight through the Hot Air Balloon experience as it was naff, and into the VR bit where as VIPs we got to sit in the VR bubble and watch a 10 minute or so video pretending to be a bubble. It was bizarre but passed the time.
Then there was a bubble light room much like Dopamine land but actually less fun as it was a walk through and didn't change colours as often.
This led us onto one of the last rooms, the bubble room where big bubbles were made by robot hands also allowing you to be submerged. The queue for submersion was long so we watched some bubbles being made but kids jumped up on the stage and popped these before they really came to life so we waltzed on out slightly disappointed. I guess kids will be kids, but there should be some consideration for other people somewhere.
Finally came the photo ops where you get bubble involved or up close and personal with a thousand bathtime duckies, the screams of which will continue to haunt me as we got in that bath. On the way out I purchased a duck as a momento and then we left having collected our posters and decided to continue the bubble theme by scouting out a pub.
Following the pub we had a lovely and filling dinner at Yatri before heading home content.
This of course was a massively family friendly experience, it was fun, it was interactive, and it was playful. The inner child in us fully came out and if you've been reading our blog posts then you'll know we love any opportunity which allow us to be big kids and enjoy life. This was high up on that winning list and given the opportunity we'd probably go again just to spend a little longer in the balloon room. All I can tell you is this has inspired a water balloon fight for the next weekend we have at home. We also have just adopted a new addition to the Gilbert-Hawman clan and I am certain our baby will enjoy a water fight too!
Please say hello to Yogi, our adorable 1 year old Chow Chow who we brought home after a long week of waiting the day after our trip. Going forward Yogi will be featured in our posts as we've made sure we visit as many dog friendly places as we can to have this pupper included! He'll be joining us on our next adventure- Supercars at Hever Castle, our second Hever trip where we hope to explore the grounds and gardens in depth as we missed out last time.
