Supercar Weekend at Hever Castle

Our second visit to Hever on the 3rd of August, in such short succession is for several reasons.

1. We like flash cars

2. Jamie very much wanted to continue guiding me around the vast gardens now that I've seen the castle

3. We have a new addition to the Gilbert-Hawman clan and wanted something doggo friendly as our first adventure with Yogi.

So here we are, with a slightly different take on a now familiar place, but in this post we focus on the gardens, the special event, and our new furbaby and how this became an ideal adventure for our 4 legged friend!

We arrived at the castle about 1pm and Yogi was very excited. There was a lot of people, and a lot of other puppers. Yogi loves to make friends and so it was a little bit of trouble trying to get him to actually walk with us. Once we managed to coax Yogi into the grounds we took a mosey through the fields showing the cars and the courtyard that housed a few.

This was when the disappointment began to set in. Super? They were not. Cars? They were.

We may have missed something somewhere, but please tell us at what point a standard Audi became a supercar? There were a handful of impressive vehicles for sure, but what was meant to be a grand event was actually extremely disappointing as not many of these cars were impressive at all. We took a few photos of the ones which caught our eye, but that wasn't many.

So we went off to get chips and sit on the grass for a bit as they were nice during our last visit. These chips were vile, the staff were a bit rude and counter-productive and it was an absolute nightmare. So we sat on the grass with our £15 worth of potato strips and picked at them as Yogi tried to make some more friends.

Giving up we decided to do the tour of the gardens that Jamie was so eager to give me and Yogi was very pleased with this idea.

Along the way we saw elegant arches, manicured lawns, and pretty plants. We also saw the marble busts and statues dotted around on our way to the lake, but it had began to rain and we heard thunder in the distance so we took a few more snaps and decided to head home. At this point poor Yogi was getting tired as this was his first real outing and so we bundled back into the car and went home.

Sadly, this event while absolutely family friendly, was boring. It was overcrowded, overpriced (food wise), and nothing special at all. Now a classic car show would have been better here, heritage against heritage, but the fact this was just cars you see on the motorway with the occasional rich persons one, nah this wasn't for us after all. There was no pihzaz, no glamour or grandeur, this was a show of money and to be quite honest with you it wasn't even the impressive sort.

Would we do this again? No. We've decided we are a classic family and 'posh' cars just aint up to much.
