Lauren's Solo Adventure: Busted
That's right, I left the boys at home and went out with my friend to see Busted perform at Dreamland.
As a young girl I was always more of a McFly fan, Busted was our rival, but that didn't mean that I didn't still know the words to many of their songs.
So when my friend Emma invited me along I couldn't say no. I'd also never been to Dreamland and so was looking forward to my night out.
So we arrive at about half 5ish, grab our merch and a drink and park our bums on the astroturf to await the start of the music at half 7. Yes it was a bit early, but in honesty we thought we would probably try out some rides before the concert, however we were saddened to learn that the rides were shut.
Half 7 rolls around and a young band called SOAP. They were good I cannot deny, but equally the music wasn't massively up my street.
A half an hour break passes before Noahfinnce performs. I enjoyed his set a lot actually as some of his songs were really quite catchy. Again quite a young performer, but he had the gift of the gab and seemed to be a natural so he certainly built up the hype.
Another half an hour went by and we assumed Busted would come on at half 8 as we were being kicked out at 10. The stage was prepped for the appearance at quarter to and yet still no Busted. It was almost 21.15 by the time the band we all came to see stepped on stage and rocked our world. Somewhat disappointing, but enjoyable.
The venue was regrettably very small despite not even being sold out. The people here were drunk, rude, and I did end up in a small altercation as someone decided she had an issue with the fact she had decided to get as close to me as physically possible and I had nowhere else to move, but that somehow spoilt her evening because she decided to try and assimilate with me. Needless to say I think Emma and I were the only sober ones attending and while my small fight did very much spoil my evening, as did the aggressive man standing next to me who screamed at every single person who pushed past us, I still was glad I went.
Busted themselves were brilliant. They did keep us waiting and they did have a setlist that only filled 45 minutes, but regardless they were brilliant. The boys were full of energy, Charlie Simpson had had his hair cut, and there was plenty of banter including some McFly beef.
The next day I was a little hoarse and had missed my boys, but it was a fun night out despite the other people factor. I've been to a fair few concerts but none of them had been as aggressive of a crowd as at Busted that night. Usually I find fans stick together and are genuinely nice to make it a great evening, this was not that and everyone seemed to be shouting and pushing at each other.
They ended on Year 3000 which of course was a banger, and I was pleased as Busted also performed my newest favourite of theirs, Good One, and my old favourite, Thunderbirds. I had a blast and was really pleased I went despite all that went on. Maybe wouldn't go to a Dreamland concert again as it was quite disappointing, but the band itself exceeded my expectations as they really were amazing live!
Would I see Busted again? Absolutely! They were one of the best bands I've seen live as they genuinely sounded good, it was a night I'll cherish and hopefully if I get lucky I can see them again but otherwise it was a dream that I didn't know I had that came true. The small girl that lives inside me is happy.
