In November poor Jamie was dragged to see Lauren's favourite band, The Howl & The Hum.
He'd never heard of them before (aside from subconsciously in her car) and was going for support, but the night blew his mind and thus it now qualifies as an adventure.
This band (or really lack there of as the group now consists of lead singer Sam pulling a Brendan Urie), are beyond belief. This was Jamie's first concert, but from my experience (Lauren) this was by far the best live performance I have ever seen. To the point that we have both agreed the set was better than the recorded music. It's a struggle to listen to the latest album in the car now as nothing will ever hit better than No One Has To Know's guitar led chorus vibrating our ribcages.
Sam's vocals were damning, distraught, and beautiful. The man sings his emotions so well and it hits hard every time his voice breaks a little or a note goes off kilter as the room is filled with music from his heart. This is what made the show, this lad quite literally belting out his tunes which he wrote when he was feeling something. These lyrics are relatable because of it, they are sad, lonely, but resonate.
I have also never come across an act as humble as The Howl & The Hum who were more than happy to do an encore, plus another, plus greet every single audience member and offer to stick around for drinks in the pub. Don't get me wrong he's also a little awkward, but he was more than happy to chat with people in the venue and he seemed genuinely choked that his little band has come far enough for about 200 people in a crowded little venue to sing his words back to him. You could see how it hit him. He thanked us.
They played all my favourites for Jamie to sample and the outcome is he has found a new favourite band.
Touring alongside was Elanor Moss who's haunting vocals warmed us up and accompanied Sam's beautifully when the time came. This girl who performs on stage in a simple dress and her socks can fill the room with the strongest vocals I have ever heard. She carries a note until there is no breath left in her body, and looks damn good doing it. Cottage core eat your heard out, Ms Moss is leading the aesthetic.
At the end of the night it was decided we would 100% be seeing them again and had become devoted followers purely because we are still chasing that feeling of a guitar shaking our internal organs. No one does it better and No One Has To Know...
