McFly & Sam Ryder
We arrived late to this one so we missed the opening supporting act and half of Sam Ryder's set, but it couldn't be helped.
Traffic is murder this time of year.
What we did see of Sam Ryder however, was phenomenal. He can hit those high notes better in real life and he is genuinely such a chatty, bubbly man that you couldn't help but enjoy his energy. His songs, especially the new ones are both deep but energetic meaning you can have them as your soul song to drown your woes while also remaining upbeat and blasting them in the car. We just loved his energy and genuineness which echoed from the stage. This guy cared, he WANTED to be there, singing his music to us. We must treasure Sam Ryder.
As for McFly. Wow.
Lauren had come to see their rivals, Busted, with her friend last year at this exact spot, and they'd only played for 45 minutes ish and she was a little disappointed. You could tell she was geared up for much of the same, 9pm rolled around and she was just saying about how it would probably be at least another half an hour before they came on stage when suddenly four bouncy men bowled on and started playing their tunes.
She was pleasantly surprised, especially when not only did they play a full our long set, they then went over as did an encore of three songs. She's always been a McFly girl but this just proves they're the better band. The energy coming from them was electric. They bounced around the stage, belted out their songs, interacted with the audience. Danny even crowd surfed.
We sang along, to be fair mainly to the ones we knew the words to, there were a few in there that we werent familiar with, and we danced and jumped and clapped in time with everyone else. As the night drew on however, we were forced to remove ourselves from the crowd and stand far off to the side of the stage. The downside of people drinking at concerts, especially in an outdoor space, is the fact that the more alcohol consumed the ruder and bolder people get. We'd purposely left a little bit of space around us as Lauren's been struggling a bit lately with being boxed in and she wanted the moving room. It wasn't much space, just enough breathing room to be honest, she could comfortably move her elbows out a little before hitting people either side of her. Sadly this seemed to be an invitation for people so squish in next to her, with the bulkiest handbag on their shoulders and continue to knock her flying with it and leave her with bruises. There was a much older man in front of her who had had a few too many and thought it funny to mock the younger women around him by copying their dance moves but maliciously and without a care who he knocked into as he thought he was more entitled to be there, and sadly we got the brunt from all these people. Not to mention people vaping and blowing it into our faces and the real kicker, those lighting up their fags and making us cough. Eventually it got too much for her and half an hour before the concert finished we had to move to give her a rest. We watched the last of the concert from the sidelines, that was until a very large group of people decided we had far too much space to ourselves over away from the stage where we couldnt see and crowded us there too.
We opted to leave 10 minutes before the end so missed the last few songs and the encore. We enjoyed it from the car park behind Dreamland where we listened in the car until it was over. Gutting, but we're seeing McFly Vs Busted in October so we aren't too mad.
It was on the way home however, that this turned into a Ghost Adventure. We'd somehow gotten turned around considering we do this drive a lot. We had to use the satnav due to diversions and it was leading us in the wrong direction and then cutting out completely. It wasn't until we found our way to Canterbury that the weirdest bit happened. A car came out of nowhere from behind us and dangerously overtook. We followed it for a few minutes on before it disappeared right before our eyes. There was no turning, just a long straight, it was right in front of us and then gone. Ghost car for sure.
Eventually, we will visit Dreamland as its own attraction and delve into the history here, but in the meantime this is just a little delve into our other adventures, the side missions if you will, and the experiences that led us into becoming history bloggers. Without our random experience trips we would have never fallen down the historical rabbit hole, so we wont stop posting the side quests but feel free to skip them if they dont float your boat. We would say go see McFly without a doubt though. Tom, Danny, Dougie, and Harry are the dream team and so talented. It was magic, it really was.
