St Colme House Dovecot

The third Aberdourian dovecot, and one that caused much confusion when researching as the internet muddles this one and Wester's dovecot.

Dating back to some point in the 18th century, this circular dovecot remains intact unlike the one from our previous visit. It's design is unusual what with being circular, but it again isnt as grand as the beehive design from the castle.

The Moray estate which this dovecot would have served back in its day was sold in the 1960s. A housing development was built in the 1970s around the same time that the dovecot found itself heading toward ruin. It has lost its roof and the entrance was dilapidated, but it was renovated alongside the McLachlan Rise estate being built which is why it also looks as though it is in someone's garden.

The dovecot is said to contain 653 nest boxes at its time of survey, but its history and use is much the same as the ruinous Wester Aberdour Dovecot.

It's probably only a few doors up, maybe a 2 minute walk as the crow flies from the other doocot. But again it was part of our little history treasure hunt. Please be respectful when going to have a look as people live here, but we don't think it's haunted or anything and you really just need a little glance at it from the roadside. It's an interesting part of Aberdour's history if you're in the area, but there is no need for a big spectacle.
