Rosyth Castle

This one was a bit of a struggle to get to as it is within Rosyth Naval Dockyard and is all fenced off so you can't access it. So it was an external viewing job, and also we had to leave a bit sharpish due to a wellbeing issue when a man started following Lauren and making comments at her.

Anyway, Rosyth Castle was built to house the new Baron of Rosyth all the way back in the 15th century. It was only a tower house, but it was built on a little island in the Firth of Forth and you could only get there at low tide. The house was then extended during the 16th and early 17th centuries following an attack in 1572 by men from Blackness Castle. Then following the Battle of Inverkeithing, Oliver Cromwell's army took over the castle.

However, it remained owned by the Stewarts until the late 17th century when it was sold to David Drummond of Invermay. The Earl of Hopetoun then got a hold on it and from the 18th century onward it remained empty and therefore used for spares for other structures. The courtyard buildings were removed and the stone used elsewhere, so eventually only the tower and north courtyard remained.

In 1903 it came under ownership of the Admiralty and as due to land reclamation ended up marooned within Rosyth's dockyard. Plans were made to restore the castle and put it into use but these were abandoned, assumedly due to finance reasons, and instead the ruins were made safe and then passed into the private sector when sections of the dockyard were sold off.

As it stands now, the castle is still on the edge of the dockyard, but is fenced off from the public. There is no parking, and while you can visit the outside, you cant seem to get too close to it.

When we visited, we took it in turns as obviously had to anchor up the car nearby as the dockyard is still in use, and when Lauren took her turn she unfortunately had an encounter with a man who had appeared out of some hedges and started following her around the perimeter shouting of his intentions. We decided to leave and as we left we saw the man having an argument with the dockyard's security as it seems they had no taken kindly to his actions. It is a shame that there are people out there who see a young woman and decide to harass and scare them, especially in such an occupied place. But it happens and more frequently than we'd like. We've even started getting harassment on our posts on Instagram, it is something we won't tolerate. We do this for fun and people have no right to spread their hate or beat us down. If you don't like our content don't look, if you don't like us then don't engage with us. You don't need to be unkind. Our wellbeing comes first.

So on that note, if you plan to take a look at this site please be careful and where able employ the buddy system. We're taking no chances going forward and we want everyone to be safe. It is not a nice world out there anymore, while we are trying to spread education and joy, we want you to take care.

Haunted? Probably due to the various battles which took place nearby, but it would just be the poor tower which holds any ghosts today as there truly isnt much left.
