St Andrew's Church, Langton
Another little post dedicated to a still used parish church. This particular St Andrew's being at home in a parish of North Yorkshire.
There was actually a church in Langton that dated back to the Medieval period, but an event which remains unnamed meant that it needed rebuilding in 1822. From what we know it seems that the original church lay in either a destroyed or ruinous state and so some of the stones were available for reuse when the new church was built.
This was another one built of sandstone with a slate roof as seems was common of the time and area. Within the church there is a tomb chest memorial to a Mary Ingram who died in 1656 and who's tomb must have survived whatever led to the first church's demise, but aside from that there are only a couple of memorials from around the time the new church was built.
It's a pretty little church with some interesting graves and we enjoyed having a wander around in the November sunshine. We really like investigating churches on the fly which is why you see so many of them! But this one has typical architecture of the time, without standing out too much.
