St Andrew's Church, Middleton
Another church in the wonderful Northern part of Yorkshire is St Andrew's in Middleton. This church was originally built in the 11th century, although only the lower part of the tower from this period still remains, and work continued as the church was rebuilt in the 13th century.
This happened again in the 15th century and in all honestly parts of the church have been chopped and changed up until the fairly modern years of a few decades ago. But St Andrew's is built of sandstone with either lead, stone, or slate roofing depending on what part of the church you are in. The church also boasts three crosses, two of which are monolithic.
This is another example of a church which has stood the test of time, but sadly had very little say within it. There isn't much we could find about the site other than what it was made of and how long it has been there for. Obviously we think this is a shame, but at the same time not posting about it because there is very little information is a contradiction of what we stand for. The point of our blog is to recognise history before it is too late, before it is knocked down and no longer there. So here we are, and here it is. Long live the various forms of St Andrew's Church in Middleton near Pickering.
