St Columba's Free Church
We're back in Edinburgh for yet another St Columba church, and like the other ones, there is so much confusion about which one is which and thus history has been lost.
What we do know is that St Columba's Free Church was founded in 1846. Originally it seems it was known as St John's Free Church as was recorded in 1893, and St Columba's Episcopal Church was 100 yards away to the west. This changed somewhere around 1907 when St John's became St Columba's and then in 1918 the Free Church congregation from East Fountainbridge merged with them.
That is unfortunately the scope of our knowledge, but Edinburgh has so many churches that are no longer churches, and ones that still are, it is hard to keep up! Regardless, we know they are all worth mentioning before they get lost, so enjoy what we know and if you can add to it then please let us know!!
