Lythe memorial

It appears to be the time of year that we've come across the most memorials. Of course approaching November these things always become more vibrant due to their poppies, but we seemed to also have accidentally lumped the posts together too!

This memorial is within the churchyard of St Oswald's Church in Lythe, which also happened to be the churchyard that we had our scariest encounter with the paranormal yet. This one was worse than the mimics in Dering Woods, but you'll have to go back and read the posts to relive those with us.

While avoiding the shadow figure hunting us within the churchyard, we just about had time to inspect this war memorial dedicated to the men in the parish who lost their lives in WWI.

The memorial is made from limestone instead of the sandstone memorials we've explored recently, and the dedication isn't just for the men who fought in the war, there is also a memorial for the seven unknown sailors found during the war and who were buried at Lythe. Like we mentioned back in our Guisborough Memorial post, it was down to the communities to come together and erect their town's memorials and Lythe's parish put up this one in 1920.

In terms of hauntings, it isn't haunted itself per say, simply the surrounding churchyard which terrified us. It is certainly worth viewing though if you're brave enough to set foot in the churchyard of St Oswald in Lythe.
