St Mary's Church, Wingham
We take a break from Knaresborough you may be pleased to find, and come back to our own neck of the woods with another local adventure. This time we're in Wingham, most well known for Wingham Wildlife Park.
Well we weren't off to the Zoo as Ren doesn't like them as she gets sad for the animals, instead we were on our way elsewhere and decided to stop as this church caught our eye.
St Mary's can be dated all the way back to the late 12th century/early 13th century at its oldest parts. It has since had various add ons and restorations that date between the 14th and 16th century.
Now this church is special because it has a 15th century stone altar back that is from Troyes in France. It also holds a fair few monuments within dedicated to local families and townsfolk. Unfortunately, this is another one of those churches where all the information to be had literally only dates certain masonry within the church, we don't know the history or confirmation of dates. But history is history and even if we don't know it, we will not risk the memory of it standing being erased like so much of our past has been.
So a short and sweet one sadly, but an appeal for more information is always to be had so we can add updates!
